Harriet James
I’m Harriet and I work in Hiring Intelligence at Cogito Talent. I studied Psychology at undergraduate level at the University of the West of England and worked here alongside my studies and during Covid-19 lockdowns. I am currently studying Human Resources Management at Masters level and I am continuing to work part time at Cogito.
I was introduced to Marc (Managing Director) and Ruari (Solutions Lead, People Insights) and began my role by doing some general admin and CV searching. It was interesting to begin to understand the process that everything goes through here. I also had the opportunity to do research current topics that contributed to Whitepapers published by Cogito, which I really enjoyed.
As the year has gone on I have been able to do more and more, including taking screening calls with candidates which was new to me, however from shadowing and listening to others I have developed my phone manner and communication skills. In the future, I am hoping to utilise my Masters degree to help Cogito wherever I can; I study modules such as change, strategy, learning and development and diversity and inclusion. Overall, being a student alongside working at Cogito has given me the opportunity to develop relevant skills alongside my degree and meet some amazing people! It is the perfect place to learn on the job and if you’re new to the office environment. There are so many different parts to the business, so I believe it can suit people from a wide variety of degree backgrounds and support your career development in numerous ways.
