Pensions

When you start work for the Council you will be automatically brought into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) from the first day or employment. For more information on the pension scheme please see the Nottinghamshire Pension Fund (link opens in a new window) website.

Learning and development

A key element of our People First programme of work is how the council values, understands and develops its staff. Your employment will commence with a period of induction, you will meet on a regular basis with your manager/team leader to review your progress throughout your probationary period.

Annual leave

Employees receive a minimum of 29 days annual leave in a full year increasing to 36 days after 5 years service. In addition there are 8 public holidays. Leave is calculated on a pro-rata basis for employees working less than 37 hours per week.

Employee assistance programme

We offer a free and confidential support service to all employees and their families. This service is available 24/7, 365 days per year, either on-line, by telephone or face to face. This service is confidential and offers counselling services along with advice on family, financial and health issues.

Maternity, paternity and adoption

We offer a comprehensive package of support in relation to maternity, paternity and adoption.

Flexible working

We have a range of flexible working options including flexi time, part time working, job share and the option of a career break to help you to achieve work-life balance.

Mansfield perks

Gives employees access to a great range of discounts on: travel bookings, high street vouchers, gift cards, cinema tickets, days out, leisure activities and your day to day spending. There is something for everyone and 1000’s of ways to save through the scheme whether you like to shop in store or online.

Leisure facilities

Free parking

The Council provides employees designated as an essential or casual car user will be issued with a car parking permit for use when undertaking official business.

Car loan scheme

A car loan scheme is available to employees whose post is designated as an essential or casual user and offers competitive and preferential rates for employees to buy a vehicle.

Save money on childcare

Eligible working parents can exchange a proportion of their gross salary for childcare vouchers. The exchanged proportion of the salary is exempt from tax and National Insurance contributions, allowing savings to be made on childcare costs. The council also offers term time working for certain roles, this involves the employee taking unpaid leave, however the employee is paid over 12 months of the year at a reduced rate rather than receiving no pay during school holidays.

Nottingham Credit Union

The council provides the opportunity for you to make payments to the credit union directly from your pay. For more information visit the Nottingham Credit Union website.

Gourmet card

Members receive a restaurant guide and dining card which entitles them for 2 for 1 meals or 25% off the bill at every participating restaurant in the UK.

Workplace challenge

The council supports the workplace challenge which is a national programme from the County Sports Partnership Network which aims to engage the workplace in sport and physical activity.

Career breaks

A career break can be taken as a period of unpaid leave of over 3 months to a maximum of 1 year. To be eligible you must have at least 6 months continuous service with the council and should have satisfactorily completed probationary/monitoring period.

Family friendly policies

A period of paid time off will be given for medical appointments, time off for cancer screening, compassionate leave, domestic emergency leave and school governor duties. The council also offers flexi-time which is a scheme that allows employees to vary their start and finish times to fit in with other commitments. Employees can also accrue additional hours to take as ‘flexi-time’ in addition to their contracted holidays.

Health and Wellbeing

Mansfield District Council is committed to employee health and wellbeing. The focus of our scheme is to help colleagues stay fit and healthy. There are health campaigns held throughout the year including healthy eating events, Stoptober, Blood Pressure Awareness, and sports activities among others.

Free eye tests

Employees who use visual display units/computers are entitled to a free eye test and £15 towards a pair of glasses at Tesco Opticians.

‘No claims bonus’ protection scheme

This scheme is designed to provide you with compensation for loss of bonus or payment of excess (or both) when you use a private vehicle, either whilst engaged on council work and / or parked on council property whilst at work.

Living wage employer

The council is an accredited living wage employer, which means all employees are paid at least the living wage. The Living wage figures are announced each November. For details, visit the Living Wage Foundation website.

Cycle to work scheme

Want to get fitter but conscious of the costs? The cycle to work scheme is a ‘salary sacrifice’ scheme where staff can buy a bike and equipment of their choice (up to a max. of £1,000) and pay for it through an amount to be taken off their salary each month over 12 months saving up to 42%. The bike should be used for at least 50% of the time to travel to and from work.

Occupational health services

If you have a health issue, your manager may refer you to occupational health in order to gain more information about your health and advice on support mechanisms that can be put into place.

Referred physiotherapy

In some instances, occupational health may recommend that physiotherapy would be beneficial to prevent further health issues which could result in time off work.

Health care scheme
