Good Energy is one of the UK’s leading renewable energy suppliers. Unlike many of the other renewable energy suppliers within the UK, Good Energy are 100% independent, supplying renewable energy generated from 100% renewable sources bought from independent generators across the UK.

Within a period of current and expected growth, Good Energy placed a greater focus on ensuring they were working towards their mission to transform the UK energy market by helping homes and businesses to be part of a sustainable solution to climate change. In order to truly implement this, they required the introduction of a new customer service platform which would provide customers with an end to end first class experience.

For this to be successful, Good Energy recognised that they needed to transform their Customer Service operations and key to this was ensuring that the employees were engaged and motivated by the companies’ purpose. Good Energy determined that recent graduates of a renewable energy discipline may be more likely to be committed to their own development and customers, these individuals would also be able to implement their academic knowledge to their work.  It was also felt that these individuals would also have a greater level of affinity with the business’ mission and be interested in career development opportunities within the business, thus making them a higher calibre of candidate for now and the future.

Good Energy created the general profile of the ideal candidate that they were looking for, however they required support in being able to identify and engage with the volume of individuals necessary for a project of this nature. As a long-standing partner, Cogito were engaged to help Good Energy attract the candidates they wanted to hire.

Our Solution

We supported Good Energy by implementing a range of sourcing strategies to connect with recent graduates through a selection methods including our unrivalled talent mapping and research approach, along with a selection of social media campaigns closely aligned to the demographics of the ideal candidate across Facebook and Instagram and a range of Branded and Unbranded Job Adverts and online content.

Our attraction methodology led to over 300 telephone interviews in which we were able to assess candidate suitable and promote Good Energy as an employer. This was vital in the process of helping the candidate understand if this was a role that they were interested in pursuing and providing Good Energy with a wide choice of candidates to assess. Our comprehensive interview also enabled us to gather data to support Good Energy’s understand of this skill set including:

  • Academic Subject and Attainment
  • University attended
  • Awareness of Good Energy
  • Perception of Good Energy as an Employer
  • Awareness of Good Energy’s current recruitment of roles
  • Pay and Benefits expectations
  • Skills and Experience
  • Strengths and Weaknesses

This data was analysed and presented in a real time online dashboard enhancing Good Energy’s candidate assessment, benchmarking and future attraction strategies.

A total of 66 candidates who both indicated their interest in this opportunity and met the required criteria were invited to attend an Experience Centre on site with Good Energy in Chippenham. These experience centres were in place to allow the candidate to understand what a day at Good Energy would be like as well as to complete a competency based interview and role play.

Project Stats

• Candidates Approached: 510
• Telephone Interviews Completed: 309
• Interviewed: 66
• Starters: 17

This project exemplifies the quick turnaround a business can have in their internal operations. Within two months, they had hired 17 motivated, high calibre candidates who were completely aware of, and bought in to, the business’ future plans.

This project allowed Good Energy to engage with individuals who they would not have previously had access to, whilst enabling their in-house recruitment team to continue to support the wider business need without being distracted by this high volume, intensive recruitment campaign.

Along with immediate hires, our approach has also provided Good Energy with a future talent pool who have an increased awareness of the business and their mission, making them more likely to consider working for Good Energy in the future than other employers.

Client Feedback

“To support our focus upon ensuring every one of our customers has a first class experience with Good Energy we re-evaluated the skills and key attributes required for our customer operation roles. We identified the need for us to attract a higher calibre of candidate and as such we wanted to work with a dedicated partner who could offer us insightful and high quality recruitment support; Cogito were the obvious choice. Their high touch account management and reporting ensured we were always aware of the project and candidate status and they promoted our employer brand authentically which enabled us to attract the candidates we wanted and meet our project goals. Cogito worked in partnership with our internal resourcing team, acting as an extension of the team and took the time to truly understand the culture, purpose and values of our business in order to ensure we hired people who align with these.”
